The Digital Policy Office, HKSAR Government wins at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026
“iAM Smart” redefines digital public services delivery and provides citizens with a single, trusted digital identity.
The Digital Policy Office (DPO), HKSAR Government won Hong Kong E-Governance Project of the Year - Smart Government in the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026. The DPO secured the award for its “iAM Smart” platform, a comprehensive digital identity initiative that unifies and provides secure access to over 1,400 online services, including all government online services, as well as online services provided by various public and private organisations. The super-app facilitates every aspect of daily life whilst ensuring privacy protection for over 4.2 million users.
Before the introduction of the platform, residents navigated multiple fragmented portals and applications across various government departments and organisations. This approach often led to administrative barriers and inefficient processes. To address these challenges, “iAM Smart” provides a single, secure platform that connects separate systems and improves the digital experience for the public.
Security features within the platform include additional identity verification for key processes. ”iAM Smart” combines facial verification technology with Near Field Communication reading of identity card chips to verify user data against official immigration records, which helps combat identity fraud. Furthermore, a personal code feature allows users to verify their identity via a QR code, facilitating use cases including visitor registrations and access control whilst safeguarding personal details.
Other citizen-centric updates include simplified registration methods and an enhanced user interface tailored to specific groups, such as the elderly and travellers. Future developments involve the integration of an artificial intelligence assistant and connection with a corporate digital identity platform to support broader digital operations for businesses. These enhancements contribute to Hong Kong’s strong performance in global smart city assessments, particularly in policy and planning, and digital government initiatives.
