BNIsmart Education was introduced to digitise education administration, financial operations, and public education initiatives.
PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk won Indonesia Process Optimization of the Year – Finance and Indonesia Public Sector Initiative of the Year – Finance at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026. The financial institution was recognised for advancing digital transformation in education and public financial management through its integrated digital ecosystem.
Universities often face high transaction volumes and manual reconciliation challenges during enrolment periods. To address these issues, BNI introduced BNIsmart Education to digitise tuition management, automate reconciliation, and improve operational efficiency. The ecosystem assigns unique virtual accounts to students, automatically matching payments to billing records and eliminating manual verification. Transactions across mobile banking, ATMs, and digital channels are processed in real time, reducing human error, accelerating enrolment, and providing a more seamless payment experience for students and institutions.
The solution also supports institutional financial operations through BNIdirect, enabling universities to manage and centralise operational transactions within a unified system. This includes facilitating payments to vendors and suppliers, managing payroll for academic and administrative staff, processing tax payments, reconciling student tuition fee payments, and handling bulk transactions such as reimbursements or stipend distributions. One implementation is at Universitas Trisakti, where the integrated ecosystem helps streamline financial operations and supports more efficient administration. In addition, the solution helps universities strengthen financial governance through integrated approval workflows, real-time transaction monitoring, cash flow management, and comprehensive financial reporting, thereby improving operational efficiency and transparency across the institution.
Beyond higher education, BNI has also expanded the implementation of BNIsmart Education to support schools, including through the Sekolah Rakyat programme, a national government initiative that provides boarding school education for underprivileged students. As the programme scales nationwide, there is a growing need for an integrated ecosystem that can digitise both school administration and financial operations.
BNIsmart Education addresses this need by providing a comprehensive solution that supports digital student identification, attendance management, student and operational payments, payroll services, as well as broader ecosystem transactions. Through these integrated solutions, schools are able to manage academic and financial processes more efficiently within a single connected ecosystem.
School administrators use BNIdirect to manage teacher payroll, operational expenditure, and payments to ecosystem partners through a centralised system. Students use digital identification cards and attendance services, whilst real-time dashboards provide visibility into financial transactions and operational activities. Together, these capabilities streamline school administration, strengthen transparency and accountability, and enable educators to focus more on delivering quality education.
