Malaysian Qualifications Agency wins at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026
The project cultivates a sustainable, values-driven culture of quality across Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem.
Malaysian Qualifications Agency won Malaysia Governance Project of the Year - Higher Education at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026. The organisation received the accolade for its flagship initiative, MQA Awards 2025.
The award marks an important milestone for MQA and underscores its continued commitment to advancing a sustainable, values-driven culture of quality across Malaysia’s higher education landscape. More than a recognition programme, the MQA Awards 2025 was conceived as a strategic national initiative to shift the conversation beyond regulatory compliance and towards a broader culture of excellence, innovation, institutional maturity, and global competitiveness.
Anchored in the aspirations of the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2015–2025, the initiative reflects MQA’s role in translating national higher education priorities into meaningful institutional practice. By recognising and celebrating exemplary achievements across the sector, the MQA Awards 2025 reinforces Malaysia’s position as a forward-looking higher education hub that values quality, relevance, and continuous improvement.
The development of the initiative was shaped through extensive consultation and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including public and private higher education institutions, polytechnics, community colleges, industry partners, and international quality assurance bodies. These engagements revealed a clear need for a national platform that not only acknowledges outstanding institutional practices, but also inspires institutions to raise their aspirations, strengthen internal quality cultures, and pursue continuous enhancement in a rapidly evolving education environment.
What distinguishes the MQA Awards 2025 is its inclusive and holistic framework. Unlike conventional recognition platforms that often focus primarily on research-intensive universities, the initiative was designed to reflect the diversity of Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem. It recognises excellence across multiple dimensions, including internal quality assurance, governance, technical and vocational education and training, innovation, and lifelong learning, thereby ensuring that institutions of different profiles and strengths are meaningfully represented.
In doing so, the initiative establishes aspirational benchmarks for institutions across the sector whilst encouraging the sharing of good practices and the adoption of global standards. The participation and engagement of local and international quality assurance leaders further enriched the initiative, strengthening knowledge exchange and reaffirming MQA’s commitment to positioning Malaysian higher education within a wider international quality ecosystem.
The culmination of the initiative was marked by a prestigious awards ceremony that brought together higher education leaders, quality assurance practitioners, strategic partners, and key government stakeholders. The event was further elevated by the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, whose keynote address reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering commitment to quality, excellence, and the future of higher education.
This recognition at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026 is a testament to MQA’s strategic leadership in driving transformation within the higher education sector. It reflects the agency’s broader mission to not only safeguard standards but also to champion excellence, inspire institutional progress, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s higher education agenda.
