Krungthai Bank PCL obtains two accolades at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026
The company secured wins for transforming public services and driving local biodiversity conservation.
Krungthai Bank PCL won Thailand E-Governance Project of the Year - Finance and Thailand Stakeholder Engagement of the Year - Finance in the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026.
The first accolade celebrates the International Driving Permit Digital Service on Paotang’s KlubRoad Mini App. Developed in partnership with the Department of Land Transport, this initiative transforms a complex government process into a seamless digital journey. The service integrates electronic Know Your Customer, e-Payment, and real-time status tracking within the Paotang application, which serves a vast national user base.
This inter-agency data connectivity automatically verifies citizen data across government systems, whilst AI-powered image validation ensures compliance with official requirements. The digital service dramatically reduces application times from several hours to mere minutes. Available 24/7, the service simplifies applications for Thai citizens travelling abroad. Following the launch, it experienced significant growth in total applications, reflecting strong user acceptance and positive feedback.
The second award recognises Krungthai Rak Phetchaburi, a public-private-people partnership with UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Raks Thai Foundation, local authorities, and coastal communities in Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi. The initiative translates national biodiversity priorities into practical local action through inclusive stakeholder engagement and community-led implementation, whilst introducing a biodiversity finance solution through conservation-related fee collection at the Phetchaburi conservation centre, enabling visitors to help sustain the ecosystem.
It contributed to the development of Thailand’s first participatory local biodiversity strategy and action plan, linking Phetchaburi’s biodiversity priorities with the national agenda. Rather than treating residents as passive beneficiaries, the bank engaged fishers, women’s groups, community leaders, and local entrepreneurs as co-designers of environmental and economic solutions.
This model created income opportunities for households through ecotourism, biodiversity-based activities, and local products, including traditional Thai desserts made from mangrove fruits. It also strengthened local leadership, with a strong emphasis on women’s participation, and provided financial literacy training to households in the community. The community-based enterprise structure, together with the biodiversity finance mechanism, strengthens long-term self-management whilst supporting coastal restoration, biodiversity monitoring, and local waste management.
