Krungthai Bank honoured at GovMedia Awards 2025 with two accolades
It received the Thailand E-Governance Project of the Year - Finance and the Thailand Public Sector Initiative of the Year - Finance awards.
Krungthai Bank clinched two wins at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 for its milestones in providing free medication for minor ailments for Universal Coverage Scheme (UCS) beneficiaries via the Paotang App, as well as its Krungthai Campus Application initiative that helps institutions deliver smart and accessible education.
Central to this achievement is the Paotang App, an open digital platform accessible to all Thai citizens, which exemplifies how technology can bridge sectors to build an efficient and inclusive healthcare ecosystem. Leveraging this platform, Krungthai Bank launched the free medication programme for minor ailments, empowering over 47 million UCS beneficiaries to access essential medications conveniently at participating pharmacies nationwide.
An essential element of this initiative is the app’s real-time data exchange, which integrates pharmacy systems seamlessly with Paotang. Features such as auto-prefill claims processing and data-driven stock forecasting streamline pharmacy operations, enhance supply management, and reduce administrative burden, benefitting both healthcare providers and patients alike.
For Thai citizens, the Paotang App offers convenient access to medications without the need to visit overcrowded hospitals for minor ailments. This saves time and travel costs whilst enabling timely care at local pharmacies. The app’s user-friendly interface also empowers individuals to verify medical entitlements, schedule preventive services, and manage their health more proactively.
Beyond individual benefits, the programme strengthens the healthcare system by alleviating hospital congestion and allowing hospitals to focus resources on critical cases. By collaborating with the National Health Security Office (NHSO), the Pharmacy Council of Thailand, and thousands of pharmacies, Krungthai Bank has fostered a sustainable ecosystem that promotes trust, transparency, and equitable healthcare access.
Since its launch in November 2024, the initiative on Paotang App has achieved significant uptake, with over 280,000 users joining within three months and participating pharmacies expanding from 2,000 to over 4,000. This underscores the power of digital innovation coupled with strategic collaboration across sectors.
“By embracing digital innovation and fostering collaboration amongst public and private sectors, Thailand is transforming its healthcare landscape. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to continuous improvement and positions us as leaders in healthcare excellence. Together, we are setting new standards for public service delivery, ensuring equitable and efficient access for all citizens,” the bank said.
Krungthai scored the Thailand Public Sector Initiative of the Year - Finance category win for this initiative.
Pioneering national education reforms
Meanwhile, the Krungthai Campus Application, which brought the bank the Thailand E-Governance Project of the Year - Finance award, addresses inefficiencies faced by educational institutions in terms of enhancing operational efficiency, reducing paperwork, improving data management, and integrating financial services.
Its open, modular digital design is based on user journeys of students, faculty, alumni, and staff, ensuring that it addresses real-world needs across the educational ecosystem. With no development cost to the institutions, it removes budgetary barriers and promotes digital equity, especially within public institutions.
To date, it supports over 300,000 users—including students, faculty, alumni, and administrative staff across 30 institutions. Its impact is also felt at every level. Students benefit from access to enrollment, payments, academic updates, and reduced paperwork. Staff experience less administrative burden, improved student tracking, and better communication. The application also lowers administrative and cash management costs and integrates with existing systems.
For government agencies, the platform enables smarter budget management, encourages a cashless society in education, and offers data-driven insights for policy and programme development. More broadly, it supports Thailand’s smart campus and smart city goals and fosters artificial intelligence- and data-enabled personalised learning.
Looking ahead, Krungthai plans to integrate the application with other ecosystems, such as Health Wallet, Smart Transport, and Smart City, to amplify the benefits of using technology in improving the lives of all Thais.
