Philippine Trade Training Center - Global MSME Academy wins at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026
Its Sustainability Ecosystem provides a roadmap for transforming Philippine micro, small, and medium enterprises into climate-aligned, globally competitive businesses.
The Philippine Trade Training Center - Global MSME Academy (PTTC-GMEA) was recognised as the Philippines Sustainability Initiative of the Year – Trade and Industry at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026 for its pioneering Sustainability Ecosystem—an integrated framework that helps micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) transition toward a greener, more resilient, and future-ready economy.

The Sustainability Ecosystem combines capacity-building, sustainability reporting, technical assistance, and market linkages to enable MSMEs to integrate sustainable business practices whilst unlocking new opportunities for growth, investment, and participation in global value chains.
At the heart of the ecosystem is the Green Shift Project, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP). The project delivers intensive, individualised coaching to fifteen selected enterprises from sustainability experts who curate immediate, high-impact action plans. This step-by-step framework guides businesses from traditional operations through opportunity mapping, gap assessment, action plan development, execution support, and buyer engagement.
Complementing this initiative is PTTC-GMEA's proposed collaboration with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which seeks to strengthen MSMEs' capabilities in sustainability reporting using globally recognised standards. By equipping enterprises with practical reporting tools and scorecards, the initiative aims to improve access to green financing, strengthen ESG readiness, and enable MSMEs to participate more competitively in the supply chains of large corporations.
To build institutional capability, PTTC-GMEA trainers and regional focal persons participated in a Training of Trainers program conducted by GRI. The programme equipped participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver sustainability reporting training and expand the initiative across the country's regions.
Further reinforcing the ecosystem is PTTC-GMEA's membership in the Net-Zero Carbon Alliance, making it the first public sector institution to join one of the Philippines' leading decarbonisation alliances. This strategic partnership connects MSMEs with large industrial corporations pursuing net-zero commitments, creating new opportunities for smaller enterprises to become climate aligned suppliers and partners in building greener, more sustainable supply chains.
Through its Sustainability Ecosystem, PTTC-GMEA demonstrates that sustainability is no longer simply an environmental responsibility—it is a strategic pathway to competitiveness, resilience, and inclusive economic growth. By empowering MSMEs with the knowledge, tools, and partnerships needed to navigate the green transition, the Center is helping position Philippine enterprises to thrive in an increasingly sustainability-driven global economy.
