Abu Dhabi Customs bags two wins at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2024
It has maximised various technologies and solutions to streamline its disaster recovery and smart inspection systems.
Government entity Abu Dhabi Customs garnered two titles at the coveted GovMedia Conference & Awards 2024 for its Smart Inspection System that digitises and automates the inspection process done onsite, as well as its IT Disaster Management initiative that relies on cutting-edge monitoring and alerting systems.
The Smart Inspection System utilises the latest technologies to provide onsite streaming and recording option for the inspection activity, without the need to have the agents available onsite. This innovation comes due to several pain points brought by the volatile timeline of inspections.
This platform sends a notification to the customer stating that the shipment will be inspected, and once the customer approves the request, the job automatically starts and the inspector starts with the job. Through accessing the live streaming link, the customer can attend the inspection live, and the recording can also be saved for later use upon need.
This has increased the efficiency of the process and the level of customer satisfaction.
Abu Dhabi Customs won the United Arab Emirates Digital Initiative of the Year - Customs category for this initiative.
Meanwhile, the IT Disaster Management seamlessly integrates automated solutions for zero-touch transitions between the primary data centres and the disaster recovery data centre. This innovative approach ensures a rapid and efficient switchover in the event of a disaster, minimising downtime and allowing for a smooth continuation of operations.
A cornerstone of this initiative is its commitment to maintaining a zero recovery point objective, signifying that no data loss is tolerated. Through meticulous planning and state-of-the-art technology, Abu Dhabi Customs has established a robust system that guarantees the preservation of critical data, even in the face of a catastrophic event.
This initiative also ensures that every team member is not only well-versed in their roles, but is also actively involved in disaster preparedness. Through regular training, simulation exercises, and clear communication channels, the entity has cultivated a culture of readiness, where each team member knows precisely what to do in the event of an actual disaster. In turn, the resilience of the IT Disaster Management system is enhanced.
Abu Dhabi Customs has charted a course guided by the successful completion of all disaster recovery drills, achieving a flawless 100% success rate. These drills are integral to its ISO 27001, 22301, and 20000-1 certifications and are designed to simulate real-world scenarios. It is further underscored by the overall systems and infrastructure availability, exceeding an impressive 99.97% in 2023.
The tangible outcomes of this initiative extend beyond minimising downtime and reducing data loss. It has also enabled reliability and security, which in turn, has bolstered its reputation in the industry.
“Our innovative approach encompasses advanced monitoring systems, automated solutions for seamless transitions, a commitment to zero data loss, and a team-based strategy. These elements collectively contribute to a dynamic and effective IT Disaster Management initiative, positioning us at the forefront of industry resilience and preparedness,” the company said.
The agency clinched the United Arab Emirates Disaster Management of the Year - Customs category win for this system.
