Hong Kong injects $1b in construction and tech fund to advance professional dev’t
The funding supports training and technology adoption.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said in his 2026-27 Budget Speech that the Government will inject $1b into the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund to support the professional development of Hong Kong’s construction industry.
Chan said, “The Construction Innovation and Technology Fund serves to promote the industry‑wide application of I&T, thereby enhancing productivity and site safety as well as reducing construction costs,” adding that the funding will continue supporting the industry’s adoption of innovative technologies and related training.
The Construction Industry Council will provide training to promote the effective use of construction robots on public works projects.
The funding is intended to strengthen industry capability as technology adoption increases.
Separately, the government has earmarked $100m to commission the Building Technology Research Institute to conduct studies, including reviewing construction standards and exploring applications of artificial intelligence in the sector.
