PT Pertamina Hulu Energi wins at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026

The Upstream Stakeholder Championship uses sports to build trust and strengthen relationships.

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi won Indonesia Stakeholder Engagement of the Year - Energy in the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026. The company secured the accolade for its Upstream Stakeholder Championship, a sports-based engagement initiative designed to strengthen relationships through an informal, experience-based approach.

Whilst formal engagement channels existed, the company identified a gap in building deeper, personal connections with stakeholders. In response, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi designed the sports initiative to bridge this gap, creating an inclusive platform where stakeholders connect on a more human level.

This initiative transformed a traditionally formal process into an activity-based experience through sports. This strategic innovation leveraged sports as a universal language to break down hierarchical barriers, encourage authentic interactions, and create moments of shared achievement. The integration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and collaboration reflects the core values of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi.

The programme achieved high participation rates and strong satisfaction levels. Participant feedback further reinforced the success of the initiative, with the overall experience, event execution, and enhancement of stakeholder togetherness all scoring near perfect marks.

During the event, participants competed in mini soccer, badminton, and table tennis competitions. The matches, such as the men’s doubles badminton final, created an energetic atmosphere that strengthened teamwork, enthusiasm, and community engagement.

The flexible design of the initiative allows for continuous evolution, whether through expanding stakeholder participation, introducing new sports, or replicating the programme across different regions. Moving forward, the programme will expand the involvement of key stakeholders and integrate sports activities aligned with participants’ interests to make engagement more dynamic and relevant.
