Compensation tops public sector employees’ priorities
61% of respondents cited compensation as their reason for staying.
More than 60% of US respondents cited compensation as the most important reason for staying in a job, McKinsey reported.
This is followed by meaningful work (41%), workplace flexibility (35%), geography (31%), and expectations (28%).
Meanwhile, the main reasons why workers leave are career development (45%), leadership (42%), and compensation (38%). Other reasons are workplace flexibility (30%) and meaningless work (25%).
“The payoff to getting this balance right is dramatic. When public sector leaders prioritize their employees, they unlock significant improvements,” McKinsey reported, noting these improvements are particularly seen in three areas–employee satisfaction, productivity and performance, and citizen satisfaction.
