US policy continuity after 2024 Presidential Elections ‘too uncertain’: report
A Trump return will raise concerns about shifts in trade, tax, and foreign policies among others.
The continuity of policies in the United States after the 2024 Presidential Elections is “too uncertain” as BMI, a Fitch Solutions Company, sees a Biden-Trump rematch.
In its quarterly Global Political Outlook report, BMI noted that a rematch between former President Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden “seems likely” which raises uncertainties in the US policy direction.
“Of greatest interest to international businesses, investors and governments will be the US election, where the possibility that former-President Donald Trump will return to the presidency will likely raise concerns about shifts in US trade, taxation, environmental, foreign and defence policies,” the report read in part.
With a Biden or the Democratic victory, BMI noted that there will likely be a broad policy continuity both in the US and internationally.
In contrast, a Trump or Republican win will likely bring back “America First,” unilateralist economic and foreign policies.
“There is bipartisan consensus for assertive stances towards China, so Washington-Beijing relations would remain tense.”
