Golden Topper is awarded Local Social Welfare Initiative - Philippines at the GovMedia Awards 2023
The Golden Topper Group of Companies received the award for Local Social Welfare Initiative - Philippines 2023 at the Gov Media Awards for its valuable contribution in the Naga Housing Project.
This comes after Golden Topper heeded the call of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to provide homes for the City of Naga in the Cebu province, in line with his administration’s goal to address the need for affordable, accessible and quality housing in the country. In September 2018, the Typhoon Mangkhut triggered a landslide in Naga, Cebu. This incident affected five barangays, claimed more than 70 lives, and displaced almost 2,000 families near the area.
With the destruction caused by the landslide, the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) called for developers that can promptly support the delivery of housing development to those affected.
Heeding the call of the national government, Golden Topper, through its subsidiary developer companies embarked on the Naga Housing Project as land developer, in line with the Group’s commitment to create better cities and better lives for all.
The project is a culmination of the public and the private sectors. As a collaborative effort amongst the national government, the provincial government of Cebu, local government of Naga, and Golden Topper, the Naga Housing Project aimed to deliver 86 housing units to its beneficiaries. Located in Barangay Tinaan, Naga, Cebu, the housing project encompassed 21,566 square meters of land.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held on September 7, 2019, which was jointly attended by then President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte, Golden Topper executives, Naga City Mayor Kristine Chiong, representatives of DHSUD and the NHA, as well as the beneficiaries themselves.
"I acknowledge the efforts of the National Housing Authority and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, as well as the local officials of the Naga City and the Cebu province, for tapping private developers to make this project possible," said then President Duterte during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.
The first phase of the Naga Housing Project was delivered in April 2022. The President of the Golden Topper Group, Mr. Allan Lim Crisologo, joined Naga City Mayor Kristine Chiong and DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario in awarding the certificates of turnover and acceptance to the affected families.
“The Naga Housing Project paved the way for the beneficiaries to rebuild their lives for the better, echoing the Golden Topper Group’s vision of creating better cities and better lives. The project is aligned with the Group’s overall commitment to becoming active participants in nation-building. Golden Topper aims to continue providing sustainable, high-quality living spaces as we expand our portfolio in the housing industry”, said Angela Solon, Head of External Affairs of Golden Topper in receiving the prestigious award in Singapore.
The Gov Media Awards recognises the most outstanding government projects and initiatives in the Asia Pacific region and is open to both government departments or organisations and companies supplying services or solutions to government projects.
Better Cities, Better Lives. Golden Topper remains steadfast in its mission to craft not just exceptional spaces, but also to shape thriving cities and elevate the quality of life for all those who call them home.
