UAE Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship lands win at GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025
Its Biometric Smart and Innovative Travel Project provides a secure biometric database that allows quick verification of travelers’ identity.
Government office Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) brought home the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Campaign of the Year - Immigration category win in the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 for its Biometric Smart and Innovative Travel Project that enhances travel experience at UAE airports and ensures higher levels of safety and security.
In partnership with other organisations, the integrated biometric initiative verifies the identity of travellers using facial recognition without the need to complete any registration procedures before travelling. The passengers only need to download the UAE ICP Fast Track ICP Digital Identity app on their devices, scan their passports, and take a photo of their face. The app verifies the user’s identity and information.
This initiative reduces the time to serve travellers from 25 seconds to just 5 seconds, integrating ticket and travel document verification into a single process and alleviating the burden on human resources by relying on smart gates for identity verification. It also creates a comfortable experience for travellers as they no longer need to present travel documents or communicate directly with airport employees.
“Self-service systems reduce pressure on airport staff and give a sense of autonomy back to passengers. This reduces stress and generally makes the airport experience better. Quicker processing also frees travellers up to spend more time and money in the food and retail outlets,” ICP said.
