Lenovo PCCW Solutions clinches GovMedia Awards 2025 for AI-driven solution with Hong Kong Fire Services Department
The solution has significantly improved efficiency and safety in wilderness search and rescue operations.
Lenovo PCCW Solutions (LPS) brought home the Hong Kong Digital Initiative of the Year - Emergency Services at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025, recognising their innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-powered drone image analysis system in partnership with the Hong Kong Fire Services Department in wilderness rescues.
The project integrates custom AI neural networks with drone technology to capture and analyse images in real-time. The system leverages advancements in thermographic imaging, colour recognition, and infrared detection technologies to swiftly and accurately identify individuals requiring rescue.
The system consolidates information from multiple sources to allow predictive route planning with the aid of heatmaps and geographical data. Safety is further elevated with the new ability to perform remote assessments for hazardous zones like cliffs or steep slopes.

“Our solution exemplifies the transformative potential of AI-enabled deep learning technology in public services. Its scalable architecture allows seamless integration with SOS signals and mobile device tracking, positioning the initiative as a pioneer in advancing public safety and emergency response technologies,” Jeanie Wong, Head of Public and Financial Services, LPS, said.
The GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 celebrates the achievements of government projects and initiatives from both government organisations and private sector companies that are not only transforming Asia Pacific, but also making a significant impact across the globe.
By revolutionising wilderness search and rescue operations with AI-driven solutions, LPS and the FSD have strengthened Hong Kong’s emergency response capabilities whilst advancing the city’s positioning as a global hub for innovation and AI adoption.
